Enjoying An Afternoon Nap

Some days I take an afternoon nap. It is one of the things I do to take care of myself. In some cultures it is the done thing to have an afternoon sleep. Although some information advises against a daytime sleep, the majority of material written recently on the topic supports taking a nap.

Research has found the benefits of a nap include -
  • boosts concentration
  • makes one more creative
  • helps consolidate learning
  • makes one happier
  • decreases stress levels
  • increases alertness.
It seems taking a 30 minute nap is more beneficial than a long nap of over 90 minutes. One is more likely to feel disorientated and groggy after a long nap. I have had this experience so when I do nap I keep it short.

Sometimes a quick afternoon nap is all I need to give me more energy for the rest of the day. And my old chihuahua loves it when I take a day time nap because he gets to curl up next to me.
