4 Ways To Support Charities Besides Donating Money

There are so many worthy charities asking for support. If you are on a limited income but would like to help people in need, endangered species, animals that have been mistreated or the environment there are numerous ways to do so. Here are four ways to provide support other than handing over money.

  1. Volunteer your time. There are many charities and not-for-profit organisations that use volunteers. You are bound to be able to find one you would like to support that needs your skills. Volunteers are very important to the survival of charities.

  2. Save your used stamps and send to a charity such as
  • Red Cross
  • Kidney Health Australia
  • Leprosy Mission Australia
In this day and age where stamps are not used as much you may need to ask friends and family to give used stamps to you. This way you will accumulate enough to make it worth posting to your chosen charity more quickly. Look on the Internet to find a charity you would like to support that accepts used stamps. You will also find details of the way to send them, what the money raised will be used for and the postal address.
  1. Donate second hand goods in good condition to appropriate locations. Don't drop off items which are not fit for sale because this costs the charity money to dispose of them.
  • People are generally aware they can donate used clothes, books and household items to thrift shops. Furniture will be picked up by some charities or you may be able to deliver it yourself. Some charities are particular about only accepting furniture which is in very good condition. If you are in the process of decluttering, donating items you no longer use will help those in need.
  • Sometimes charities drop off bags in letter boxes and ask people to leave suitable goods in the bags at the gate on a specific pick up day.
  • When spectacles are no longer required, usually because you need a stronger prescription, they can be donated. These spectacles are usually sent to Third World countries to help people who need them. Opticians often collect ‘old’ spectacles.
  1. Use your Flybuys points to support Red Kite. Red Kite provides support for young people to the age of 24 who have cancer. It also supports their families.
Perhaps you don’t have much money to donate to worthwhile causes but there are alternative ways of providing support.
